A tape with her acting was sent to the producers along with another tape of her doing MMA. They inquired if Jessica was able to perform sword fighting, so she was able to send them an image of sword fighting. Jessica had read the script for the part she realized it was necessary to learn weapons. So she took her very first practice lesson. Jonathan Glassner stated that they were awestruck by Jessica's performance during her first training lesson. The Outpost was her first big role in the US as her previous films were filmed in Australia. Jessica's expertise in mixed martial, horse riding and weaponry as well as her capacity to perform stunts, allow her to be an imposing female role. In Australia she learned to muay Thai and boxing. Jake Stormoen was on his Season 4 set when he met a wandering dog. The stray dogs had occupied the location. Jessica fostered two of the puppies.
